Previously, Zakki was a journalist for Suara Merdeka newspaper in Central Java, had participated in creating the online media Serat.id and wrote there, while being Assistant Editor of Tirto.id. Apart from that, he has worked on reporting for VICE Indonesia and Ekuatorial.com.
He has been involved in a project investigating plagiarism, corruption, and river pollution issues. He also understands open source intelligence techniques (OSINT).
